Praying Through -- What?

Hi, gang,

Every so often I hear someone telling me to "pray through" or saying that
they "prayed through," but they use the expression in a way that leaves me
confused as to what it means. Someone might say, "I was worried about the
situation until I prayed through it." The only thing I ever hear is that
you must get in your prayer closet or with one or two people and pray
nonstop with them. How can you pray through a situation if, for instance,
you only pray through the first couple of hours of a month long situation?
That is simply praying through two hours of a month long situation. What
does it mean when someone tells you just to pray through without saying
how long through means. Pray through the morning? Pray through the day?
Pray through what? Obviously they often cannot mean praying through the
entire situation for a zillion years. If one is in his fifties, for
instance, and is still looking for Miss Right, are you supposed to pray
nonstop for the next twenty years if it takes that long? You have to do
other things for twenty years, such as eat, work, sleep, go to church,
etc. So, how do you know when you have prayed through something.

When you keep praying and praying over and over again for the same thing
in a marathon prayer session, are you not actually violating our Lord's
admonition against multiplying words in vain repetition?

Inquiring minds need to know.

Praying through, means ...

To pray until you receive your answer. Remember Daniel. His prayer was
answered on the the first day he prayed. But, it took 21 days until his
answer arrived. Reason? The angel God sent Daniel with the answer was bound
by the prince of Persia, and it took Michael the archangel to loose him.

Now, let me ask you if you pray in tongues daily?

Praying through, means ...
To pray until you receive your answer.
Hi,

Gee, and to think I have done that a few times myself without knowing it.
However, when I did it, it didn't take hours and hours as some have
implied, I just prayed a short, simple prayer and I had my answer within
a minute or two. The one time I gave a marathon prayer a chance was one
lasting about 4 hours wherein I sought the Lord on one particular thing
and quit praying about it because I had other things to attend to. That
was around 15 years ago and I am still waiting for that prayer to be
answered. Of course, I was wrong to pray for that long on one thing
anyway because that is a multiplication of words that our Lord said not to
do.

What is especially awesome are those times when the Lord answers a prayer
BEFORE it is prayed. That happended once to me back in August, when the
Lord told me that my pastor was going to mentor me for training for a
ministry position.

Yes, I do pray in tongues at least a little most days.

Praise God.

While it isn't mandatory to pray for many hours, it is a blessing to be in
His presence. I have prayed not just hours, but for weeks, and only stopping
to eat, sleep a little, and restroom stuff.

Try this, and see if it doesn't change your life: Pray in tongues for 2
hours in the morning, and 2 hours in the evening before bed. Do this for 2
weeks at least.

God bless you, and Merry Christmas

Yes, what is meant by "praying through", is until the answer is recieved.
A famous preacher from around a hundred years ago or so, was said to go out
to a field to pray before his preaching, and that a large area of the plants
were trampled due to the fervency of his prayers as he knelt there. Not
every one prays in exactly the same way, although there are some examples
from the bible. Hannah, before being given the promise of having her son,
Samuel, prayed fervently, moving her lips, but not making any sound, and was
accused of being drunk, and then granted an agreement with her prayers when
she explained herself. The disciples in the upper room, who first recieved
the baptism of the holy Spirit, prayed so loudly, declaring the wonderful
works of God, in the languages of those who came to Jerusalem for the feast
of Pentecost, so that many heard and came, and then heard Peters sermon,
resulting in many conversions. Jesus Himself went to an isolated place to
pray very early in the morning. And see also Hebrews 5:7 to get a glimse of
His prayers.
Although it is God who gives us the victory, we westle with
principalities, and powers of darkness, by the power of God's Spirit, and we
have the armour of the Lord. He gives us the victory, but we speak the word
of the Lord, and make supplication, and interccession, as we apporach God's
throne of grace in faith. It is also written that he who comes to God , must
believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek
Him. Faithfully seeking Him, and learning to be in a "spirit of prayer" are
important as well.
We know also from the prayers of Cornelius, which were said to have
become as a memorial before the Lord, that we sometimes we need to pray
about some things over a period of time. We even see this touched on in
Jesus' parable of the
unjust judge.
There is so much to learn and accomplish through prayer, and about
prayer, by the Spirit of God. Here are a couple more good scriptures on
prayer:
"But you beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith,
praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for
the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life." Jude 1:20 - 21.
"What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will
pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will
sing with the understanding also."
" I thank my God I speak in tongues more than you all, yet in the church
I would rather speak five..."
Yours in Christ Jesus,
Bill.
